With Covid-19 cases increasingly on the rise in the country, the organizer of the popular reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, has announced that the fifth season of the reality TV show will commence on July 19, 2020.

This was announced by the organizers of the much-anticipated reality show on its official Twitter page @BBNaija on Monday.

“The new season of #BBNaija launches 19 July 2020, proudly sponsored by Betway Ng in association with Guinness Nigeria” the announcement read.

It will be recalled that on May 20, 2020, the organizers revealed in a statement issued in Lagos that for its fifth season, the BBNaija show will run an online audition process from May 20 till May 30.

Potential contestants were informed to record a two-minute video of themselves stating why they should be picked to be a housemate in season 5 of Big Brother Naija.

Following this, they were asked to log on to the BBN audition website to fill out the online registration form and upload their videos.

The online audition, they disclosed, is free and open to interested male and female participants who are of Nigerian nationality with a valid Nigerian passport. They must be at least 21 years of age by June 1, 2020.

With the show now slated to go ahead despite the upsurge in Covid-19 cases in the country, it is left to be seen how the organizer hopes to maintain the social distancing directive of the Federal Government.

Recall that Nigeria has recorded over 24,567 cases and the number of active cases is still on the rise.
